What is Needed Day of Test?

  • Permit or Level 1 License issued by Secretary of State (No photo copies), photo ID if 18 or older.
  • Segment 2 card (if under 18).
  • A parent or legal guardian must accompany the student under 18 for the road test; no additional passengers.
  • Hours log for students under 18.
  • You provide vehicle; we do not have rentals.
  • Current registration and insurance for vehicle. 
  • All turn signals, tail lights, brake lights, and horn must be in working order.
  • Must have working wipers, mirrors, windshield we can see out (no obstructing cracks), and gas in the tank.
  • The car must be in SAFE condition in order to go out on the road.


Note: We do not have an indoor facility. Please dress for the weather if you have to wait for someone taking the test.  

 

Basic Skills and Parking

The skills test is in the parking lot during first part of test.

You must pass this portion before we proceed on the road.

 

Road Portion

You will be driving in Genesee County and surrounding areas -  

both suburban and expressway experience.

The CDL skills test consists of 3 parts:

  1. Pre-Trip Inspection
  2. Basic Control Skills Test
  3. On-Road Driving Test


You must pass all 3 parts to pass the CDL skills test.

CDL 3rd party road testing

CDL Temporary Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) from MI Secretary of State (Must be held for at least 14 days). Driver must have 


  1. valid Michigan Driver’s License.
  2. completed ELDT theory and behind-the-wheel training.
  3. current Proof of Insurance for truck AND trailer (if applicable).
  4. current Vehicle Registration for truck AND trailer (if applicable).
  5. studied last 3 chapters of the CDL Manual from Michigan Secretary of State.

 

Have the following when you schedule your CDL driving test:


  1. Name
  2. Phone #
  3. Driver’s License #
  4. Date of Birth
  5. CDL Type (Class A, B, or C)
  6. CLP Issue Date
  7. CLP Expiration Date
  8. Endorsements on CLP
  9. Rental truck or personal truck


   If bringing truck or bus:

  • Does it have air brakes?
  • Does it have manual or automatic transmission?


Note: We will need to see your driver’s license and CLP by way of text or email to schedule an appointment

 

Qualifications for bringing your own truck/trailer:


  • Must meet DOT inspection specifications.
  • Emergency equipment (triangles, extra fuses, fire extinguisher).
  • Must NOT be carrying a load.
  • CLASS A test – combination GVWR over 26,001 lbs. (over 10,001 lbs. for trailer).
  • CLASS B test – GVWR over 26,001 lbs. (no trailer).
